Los Angeles, CA – Colombian psychedelic funk trio BALTHVS is set to release their new project, Flesh and Soul, on June 13, 2025 via Mixto Records. The four-track EP delves into the tension between youthful aspiration and the sobering realities of adulthood, blending introspective themes with the band’s signature hypnotic grooves and global influences.

Flesh and Soul is a spiritual continuation of Year of the Snake,” the band shared in a statement. “It reflects a year of deep transformation—for us as a group and as individuals. It also signals a new beginning.”

The title track opens the collection with a cinematic, melancholic pulse, setting the tone for a record that balances vulnerability with expansive soundscapes. The EP also includes “Mood Swing (Principles of Rhythm),” an earlier 2025 release that showcases BALTHVS’ fusion of laid-back psych textures and disco-inflected momentum.

“I feel the future is shrouded in uncertainty,” says Balthazar Aguirre, the band’s founding guitarist and creative lead. “But I cope through the discipline of work. Music remains our sanctuary—a place of resilience, escape, and hope.”

Other standout tracks include the swirling, synth-laced “Year of the Snake,” a meditation on change inspired by the Chinese zodiac symbol of transformation, and “Kilig,” a euphoric track written in just three days between tour dates. The song takes its name from a Tagalog word for joyful excitement, capturing a bright, danceable energy.

Flesh and Soul arrives as BALTHVS enters a new phase of their career. Following five years of relentless touring and festival appearances—including Outside Lands, Electric Forest, Lollapalooza Chile & Argentina, and SXSW—the band is preparing for an expansive North American tour this summer.

BALTHVS will join genre-defying funk outfit Lettuce for a series of U.S. dates, followed by select autumn performances supporting My Morning Jacket. Their summer festival itinerary includes BottleRock Napa (May 23), Lightning in a Bottle (May 25), Electric Forest (June 19), Nelsonville Festival (June 20), Green River Festival (June 22), and Montreal Jazz Festival (June 26).

With more than 45 million streams, 10,000 vinyl records sold, and performances in 56 cities across 19 countries, BALTHVS has emerged as one of indie music’s most globally resonant acts. Their sound—a vibrant mix of 1970s psychedelia, Latin rhythms, funk, and ambient textures—has drawn praise from KEXP, BBC Radio, and Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide FM.

Formed in Colombia, BALTHVS consists of Balthazar Aguirre (guitar), Vanessa Muñoz (bass), and Santiago Lizcano (drums). The band’s journey began after a near-death rock climbing accident prompted Aguirre to leave behind a career in law and pursue music full time. Known for their prolific output and improvisational live sets, the group’s most recent album, Harvest, marked a shift toward a more collaborative studio process, recorded during a month-long residency on a Colombian farm.

In an industry shaped by fleeting trends, BALTHVS continues to forge a timeless and distinctive path. With a clear artistic vision, a steadily growing international following, and an unwavering creative drive, the trio is cementing its place in the global psychedelic and indie funk scenes—one track, and one show, at a time.
